Come read the (in)sane ramblings of a 20-something who has nothing better to do than (in)sanely ramble! There's also stuff about hermit crabs.

Sermons

Being in church the other day reminded me of why I actively choose not to go to church anymore. I don’t want to offend the person who I was going to church for, but I have to say something about the priest’s sermon. Overall, it was a beautiful service that I’m sure did justice to the man it was dedicated to, however I was a bit put off by the priest’s assertion that our main purpose in life should be to get into heaven. I found what he was saying about God to be arrogant and exclusive. I can’t remember the exact wording but I think it was along the lines of 'God will only accept those who devote their lives to him'. It all seemed a bit fascist to me. I know that’s a strong term, but that’s how it came across.

Anyone been to church lately? Anyone got any views on this topic? I don’t diss religion, or belief. I think it’s important to have something to believe. But I disagree with the manipulation, forceful conversion and misleading that goes on within the institution that is the church. To me religion is about treating others as you would like to be treated yourself. Actually, the priest mentioned something at some stage about living for the benefit of others. I think it was the only part of his sermon I understood. To me, that’s what religion and life should be about. Isn’t pleasing others the greatest source of happiness? What are your thoughts?

The Heroic Trio

For those of you who don’t know, The Heroic Trio (THT) is a kinda serial that I’ve been attempting to write for the (un)holy trinity – Melz, Jaz and Vicky. The story is based on three incredibly sexy, independent women who lead normal lives by day and delve into the dark and dangerous world of super-hero-dom at night. Yes, they are hot chicks with superpowers.

This won’t mean much to most of you, but I thought I’d add a little character sketch of the trio on the website, just for something different. Plus, I have apparently been neglecting Vicky, and I just know this will get her rocks off.

Alexandria (Lexi) Northam alias Tempest.

Lexi Northam lives in an upstanding apartment in Docklands with her irresistible, Scottish, rock musician boyfriend Gerard Lloyd Webber. By day she is a hard-nosed journalist for The Age and by night she is the blue-leather-wearing, weather-controlling powerhouse that is Tempest.

Lexi loves mini-golf, mashed potatoes, the Liverpool Soccer Club and London. Currently she is preparing for the most heffamongous moment of her life – she has just received a job at The Guardian in London and her and Gerard are making adjustments to move to the UK and live.

Lexi’s favourite spot is the roof of her high rise apartment. There she can sit in peace, practice her powers and unleash her silly walk!

Anastacia Boreanaz alias Horizon
Anastacia Boreanaz, alias Horizon, is the face of the Trio. Gorgeous, glamorous and full of girl power, she knows how to kick some mega bad guy butt, and look good at the same time. Since completing her studies at the notoriously demonified Deakin University, Anastacia has forged a successful career in construction management. At the moment she commands her own construction company with head offices in Darwin (her much loved home town) and Melbourne.

Anastacia also instructs exclusive dance lessons at her own studio in Melbourne. Recently, she received an invitation from the New York Dance Academy’s David Brando to choreograph and provide dancers for a ground-breaking production set to premiere in Melbourne. Her construction company has also secured a mammoth deal constructing the set of one of Fox Studios new films.

When Anastacia has had enough of meetings, dress suits, jetsetting around the world and shimmying her way across the dance floor she transports herself to her favourite location on a remote sanctuary island where she relaxes with her beloved pet tigers.

Jordan Croft alias Shadow.
Jordan is the eldest and wisest of the Trio. With her background in law, forensics and combative training, Jordan has naturally taken on the unofficial role of leader of the pack.

Her successful Private Eye business not only generates some useful contacts for the Trio but also provides them with clients and gives Jordan insight into the criminal underworld. She is very careful, however, not to leave any trace of her heroic persona when fulfilling her duties as a PI. This is of course made easier by the fact that Shadow’s ultimate weapon is her ability to morph into objects, people and animals, making it very simple to spy on unknowing outlaws.

Jordan lives on the Mornington Peninsula with her King Charles Cavvie, Vin. She has had a string of boyfriends but is currently unattached and loves nothing more than spending time on her yacht in the bay.

Bo Croft alias Favour.

Bo is Jordan’s younger, tech-head, geek sister who isn’t part of the Trio (cause then it wouldn’t be a trio) and doesn’t have any superpowers (apart from her obnoxiousness) but insisted on having a cool alias.

Until a few years ago Bo wasn’t even aware that her sister and her two (strange) friends had superpowers. Now she is chief gofer/ manager of the team. Bo liaises with the UFOS (United Forces of Superheroes) and controls all other administrative, technical, legal, social and so on issues applicable to the Trio.

Her job includes researching, designing, purchasing and testing (her favourite part) gadgets as well as organising Trio gatherings and washing their costumes (which doesn’t take much, considering how little they actually wear).

When she’s not busy doing stuff for them, she works at a video store. Bo’s favourite pastime is watching ‘MacGyver’, her favourite spot is on the couch and her favourite person is her computer.
